For Britney

Poor Britney Spears. Remember when she was the innocent teen queen? Then she goes crazy, marries a dude who seems like he lost his job selling cell phones at the mall, pops out a few kids, shaves her head and stops talking to her mom. But you still think after all that she would still try...right? I guess not. Click here for her much talked about VMA performance.

This fantastic performance popped into my mind this weekend as I was driving along I-95 listening to some classic R.E.M. Now I know I'm taking the lyrics a bit out of context but consider this:

Life is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes

That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around

It's as if it was written for Britney! Ok ... maybe it's a stretch.
