RIP Odetta: 1930-2008

Paste Magazine online had a nice brief writeup about her life which you can read here. The article had this to say about Odetta: "Her soulful musicianship had a vital strength that inspired further generations of luminaries. Bob Dylan cited her first record as the his initial turn-on to folk singing. And Rosa Parks, when asked after the the Montgomery, Ala. bus boycott what music was important to her, said "all the songs Odetta sings."

If you remember I had a post dedicated to the song "God's Gonna Cut You Down" aka"Run On" back in October 2007, which included this track Odetta's version of the tune: "God's Gonna Cut You Down" by Odetta (mp3). The other versions can be found here.
