The Cell Phone Wave

What will they think of next.

I guess Coldplay posts aren't so rare. I'm loosing my street cred.

Run Like Hell

My buddy Long Island Paul sent this my way. He said "Looks like 28 Days Later at the 2:45ish mark. Pretty neat video. Very Bono-ish."

No way Bono can run that far:

Added bonus hearing the announcer describe it as "off the hook" in a thick aussie accent. Say what you want about them - Coldplay put on a good show for their fans.

All You Need This Week

By the way I didn't want to make it seem that I didn't like the Josh Rouse show on my previous post - I did - it just wasn't the best Josh Rouse show ever (double bill with Leona Naess at the Black Cat on the 1972 tour was).

Anyway, this week I am up in Boston for work. I could have posted a quote from America by Simon and Garfunkel since this immigration news is all the talk today, but I honestly don't care. I could post about Boston, but there is no song called "Red Sox fans annoy me" or "I'd rather not be in Massachusetts" (though I could have posted "Back to Massachusetts" from Guster's "Homecoming Queen"). Instead I am inspired by tomorrow night being the start of Passover. So while I can't quote anything by the band Bread or the Disco Biscuits or even Cracker, I can give you a couple of Passover quotes:

"Come on now, don't you want to see?
This thing that's happening to me
Like Moses has power over sea" from COLDPLAY's song MOSES

and of course

"Left with a mark on the door,
Is this the gift that I wanted to give?"
from JOY DIVISION'S song PASSOVER

Concert Review Roundup

Well Mrs. Hops and I completed ourmarathon 2 week tour seeing 3 shows. Well, its a marathon for old folks like us who have to wake up and go to work after these bad boys. We really got to see the three corners of rock:
Coldplay - massive band in a massive venue with a massive amount of annoying people at the show. It was still awesome
Nine Inch Nails - angry freaks joined together to destroy the House of Blues in Atlantic City. You know how Mrs. Hops felt about the show, it was pretty outstanding
The National - We finished our trio off with The National last night at the Black Cat in DC. The show was the cool indie band where people show up just to be listening to the band of the moment. And the band knows it. Here is their lyric from Lit Up:
And everything surrounds you, and it doesn't fade Nothing like this sound I make That only lasts the season A and only heard by bedroom kids who buy for that reason

I have to say they were AWESOME. Had such a good time. Its so nice to see a small band in a small club giving it everything they have. You know they aren't huge rock stars who don't understand how lucky they are to have an audience. Rock stars don't write lyrics like this opening line from Baby We'll Be Fine:
All night I lay on my pillow and pray For my boss to stop me in the hallway Lay my head on his shoulder and say Son, I've been hearing good things

I highly recommend this band.

All in all 3 shows, all were amazing. Not much more you can ask for than that. I really live a good life.

Lamest Concert Souvenir Ever?

We saw Coldplay last night, had INCREDIBLE seats. They were right on the side of the stage, so Chris Martin was literally a few feet from us singing for a lot of the songs. Had a great time. As a thank you for my manager for letting me get out of a meeting and go to the show I picked up this fancy schmancy Coldplay mug. So I ask you - Is this the lamest concert souvenir ever? Discuss amongst yourselves.
